The Dark Knight

Heath Ledger's Joker is still the reason people talk about this movie, and it holds up completely — genuinely unsettling, not just theatrical. What impressed me most on a rewatch was how much of the action is practical, and how the plot treats Batman's choices as morally costly rather than automatically heroic. Bale's growled Batman voice is a minor distraction I've never fully gotten used to, but it's a small complaint against a nearly airtight crime thriller.
